Herbert W. Burns designed the Slayman-Bock Residence (1950) in Deepwell Estates in South Palm Springs. This custom-designed mid-century modern home has granite flagstone flooring throughout, with many original details intact. The living room features several of Burns' Late Moderne signatures, including Arizona flagstone fireplace and floating, up lit soffits. Original steel sliding glass doors and walls of glass showcase the majestic mountain views. The primary bedroom has its own restored bathroom, while two additional bedrooms share another bathroom on the other side of the house. The floor plan includes a separate den or office area, a wet bar, a kitchen, and a laundry room. Easy-to-maintain desert plantings grace the front yard, while a classic kidney-shaped pool is the highlight of the backyard. There is a covered carport for one car which features a wall of interesting vertical wood louvers. The house is featured on the cover of the book, "The Design of Herbert W. Burns." Its restoration was honored with a 2022 Palm Springs Modern Committee Preservation Award.
