Abstract: Michael Mann's film Heat, starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, is a love letter to Los Angeles, showcasing dozens of locations and spectacular homes in the famous city.

Now two of the homes that featured in the 90s action film are hitting the market.

The latest to hit the market is a charming Malibu retreat that was used as the backdrop for De Niro's residence in the film. It has an asking price of $21 million.

It is situated on the beach at Malibu Bay Colony, a guard-gated celebrity enclave whose residents include Tom Hanks, Woody Harrelson, Jeff Bridges, Bette Midler, Tori Spelling, Bill Murray and Kevin Kline.

This contemporary house was built in 1982 by architect Ron Goldman, who made the most of the waterfront setting by combining floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights, sliding glass doors and wide terraces - all with unobstructed views of the beach and the sea.

Like many of Malibu's finest houses, this one is secluded from the street and it's all about the beach.

Its location so close to the surf breaks will make you feel like you're on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom layout has intriguing geometric angles and symmetry, including a floating staircase that is visually striking and practical.

An additional outdoor staircase leading to a private deck is also intriguing.

Among the many highlights of the home is the master suite, which has a private terrace overlooking the sea, a living area with a fireplace and a luxurious bathroom that also has sea views.

There are plenty of built-ins, including desks, shelves and cupboards, making it possible to include many of the furnishings in the sale.

This sparkling home last changed hands in 2020 for $7.25 million. Since then, solar panels and a Tesla charger have been added, along with many other upgrades.

The house can also be rented out for $80,000 a month during the summer months, when studio executives, recording artists and professional athletes regularly stay in this star-studded town on holiday.

In the cooler months it is listed at $60,000 per month.

Another house in The Heat is now on the market. That would be the iconic shack in Los Angeles. It is supported by a system of sinewy stilts jutting out into the hillside with views of the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory.

"Heat" was released in 1995 and had an all-star cast including Val Kilmer, Jon Voight and the late Tom Sizemore.

Jane Dorian of Carolwood Estates was the listing agent for the house.
