Abstract: What's black, white and red? An A-frame cabin in the woods of Crestline, California.

The mid-century modern-style home, built in 1961, recently underwent an extensive renovation and is striking in every way except for the fiery red fireplace in the living room.

But it's more than just a splash of colour in this black-and-white house - the fireplace also heats the stylish 948-square-foot space.

This stunning one-bedroom, one-bath A-frame is listed for $520,000 USD. It last sold here in 2021 for $217,000, according to the Realtor.com® website.

Dani Rosenthal of the Wheeler Steffen Team at Sotheby's International Realty says the sellers "completely redesigned the layout and exterior details, keeping only one original feature of the house, which was the red fireplace" . She is co-listing with Rob Kallick of the Take Sunset team at Roberts & Company." The core of the remodelling was to keep the house as it was."

The design maximises the square footage of the house.

Rosenthal explains, "Instead of squeezing multiple small spaces into the shell of the house, they opted for single large spaces. One bedroom is a loft and the kitchen spans the side of the home."

When the sellers bought the house two years ago, it was in disrepair and in need of repair.

Rosenthal said, "They wanted to give it new life for people who appreciate art, design and architecture. They were looking for a sexy, chic and moody vibe."

Metal sliding doors open onto a large terrace, extending the living space outside. From inside, the windows frame the natural surroundings, almost like a painting.

Rosenthal says, "There are mature trees here that are very beautiful and unique. It's a beautiful, tree-canopied street, and our goal was to use these open windows to provide a piece of art for the interior of the house."

Aside from the striking dark hue, the black oak exterior looks a little more traditional than the interior.

It does mimic other homes in the area, but step inside and you'll be amazed and intrigued by the design details they chose, Rosenthal says.

Crestline is a small mountain town about an hour and 20 minutes from Los Angeles.

"It feels super secluded, yet very close to amenities," says Rosenthal, who adds that the cabin is perfect for "writers or artists who just need a very special and peaceful place to escape any type of hectic life."
