Abstract: Featuring tennis courts, a bespoke Art Deco theatre and a yoga studio, Jim Carrey's luxurious estate is extravagant.

After nearly three decades, the 61-year-old star is giving up the 12,704-square-foot home he bought in 1994 for around $3.8 million.

The lavish house was built in 1951 in Brentwood, an upscale neighbourhood in Los Angeles. Its list price of $28,900,000 makes it the fifth most expensive home for sale in the community.

"This home offers a setting for those who want to enjoy elegant entertaining," says Janelle Friedman of Sotheby's International Realty - Santa Monica - Venice Brokers, or ...... There is plenty of space for children to play and explore in a magical setting.

The 280 feet of hedge frontage provides plenty of privacy. Five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and three half bathrooms fill this mostly one-storey ranch home, of which only the cinema and gym are on separate floors.

The sprawling home also reportedly serves as a showroom for some of the artwork Carrey has created over the years.

The home's bespoke cinema is a real showstopper.

It's as striking as the famous Hollywood movie palaces, with mohair-covered sofas, burlap columns and a snack area, and a luxurious marble bathroom," says Friedman.

Costumes from some of the comedian's films are displayed in glass cases, and the bar showcases more film memorabilia.

The estate's resort atmosphere comes from its poolside cabanas, gazebo, waterfall pool and spa, as well as a terrace designed for practising yoga and meditation.

A mature vegetable garden puts vine-ripened tomatoes within easy reach. The owner's suite has a tranquil setting with raised windows, covered balcony, sitting area and fireplace.

The wood-panelled master en-suite bathroom also has a fireplace, plus leaded glass windows and a soaking tub.

In fact, all the bedrooms are en-suite, perfect for hosting overnight guests or for the family to spread out.

Despite being over half a century old, the house still has a modern feel to it. It features brick and hardwood floors, lots of natural light, and five fireplaces.

The house is also ready to entertain, thanks to a chef's kitchen with an abundance of cabinetry and high-end appliances. There is even an indoor barbecue area.

In several parts of the house, glass doors lead to a large yard. The property also includes a three-car garage and lush, cultivated grounds.

"With two acres of verdant land scattered with mature trees; large meadows; and winding paths, it is a rare and valuable commodity," says Friedman.

She believes the area's strong reputation will attract affluent buyers who value privacy.

"Brentwood is one of the top communities in Los Angeles," notes Friedman." It's far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city while still enjoying easy access to the beach from downtown."

Born in Canada, Carrey gained fame in the 1990s through the television sketch comedy show "In Living Color."

The award-winning actor has appeared in dozens of films, including "The Cable Guy", "Dumb and Dumber", "Kingsman", "Pet Detective", "The Mask", "I'm a Singer" and many more. Pet Detective", "The Mask" and "Man on the Moon".
